Supporting Manufacturing Education

With the accelerating growth and impact of the current “fourth industrial revolution,” or Industry 4.0, manufacturing has become increasingly connected, automated and intelligent: It has become “smart manufacturing.” This evolving, technology-dependent and advanced industry supports an estimated 17.6 million jobs in the U.S.; a projected 3.5 million manufacturing jobs will need to be filled in the next 10 years.

New demands and opportunities face those who are and will become the American manufacturing workforce.

SME works in a variety of ways to ensure that high-tech employees are prepared and equipped the creativity, ability and skillset to keep up with rapidly advancing technology.

We recognize educators for inspiring students and encourage young talent to pursue careers in manufacturing research.

Our student innovation tours and competitions open the door for interested students, helping them bridge the gap between academics and industry.
